Joined Shikoku Airlines Co., Ltd. in April 2021. Experienced passenger service as a ground staff member. Joined Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. in 2023. Currently works as a flight attendant on domestic and international flights.

■Have you been able to use your experience as a ground staff member in your position as a flight attendant?

With the knowledge and experience I have as a ground staff member, when I work as a cabin attendant, I am able to respond quickly to questions from customers about their arrival airport or connecting flights without having to hand them over to ground staff.

 

This allows us to assist customers on the spot without making them wait, which leads to customer service that allows them to feel at ease on board.

■Please tell us about the attractions and rewards of being a flight attendant.

The most attractive thing about working as a flight attendant is that you get to meet a lot of different people and grow as a person through that.

 

By interacting with customers from a variety of backgrounds, including nationalities, ages, and occupations, I can broaden my perspective and experience personal growth.

 

In addition, the crew members are from various countries and have diverse personalities, so every flight is full of new excitement. Especially on international flights, there are many opportunities to work with crew members from overseas bases, which is another great attraction as it allows you to put your language skills to good use.

 

Teamwork is essential in business.

For example, even if the departure is delayed, the crew will work closely together to ensure the flight arrives on time. In such situations, we feel a strong sense of accomplishment and personal growth when we work together to provide a safe and comfortable flight.

 

This job, where you work together with your colleagues to ensure customer peace of mind and satisfaction, is full of rewarding opportunities that allow you to grow both as a person and as a professional.

■Is there any memorable episode that occurred while working?

This happened when I was handling a group of 120 exchange students from South Korea on a flight from Haneda Airport to Hiroshima Airport. I had briefed the ground staff in advance and was aware that the group was made up of students.

 

As I was in charge of announcements, I gave boarding instructions and safety instructions in Korean during the flight. I also provided in-flight service in Korean, which made the students very happy and made the flight a very enjoyable one for me as well.

 

Furthermore, thinking that the students might be anxious about their upcoming study abroad life, he added a message in Korean to the announcement, saying, "Do your best in your study abroad life in Japan," which elicited warm applause from the passengers on the plane.

 

I was happy to be able to empathize with the passengers' feelings, and it was an emotional and unforgettable flight for me as well.

■Why do you work hard as a flight attendant despite the difficult times?

The job of a flight attendant can be tough at times, but I think it's also a job that I often find enjoyable. Even the smallest things, like the smiles of customers and words of gratitude, stay in my heart and make my daily work worthwhile.

 

For example, on one flight, we had a child we helped take a photo of, and the family later printed it out and sent it to our company along with a letter.

 

Being able to encounter such heartwarming stories over and over again makes me feel positive and motivated to try my best again.

 

Interacting with customers is what drives me to work, and that's why I can keep working hard no matter what.

■Please tell us how you have particularly put what you learned at Hospitality Academy to good use.

These are "knowledge of aviation terminology learned in an aviation industry studies class" and "sign language skills learned as a second language."

 

When we have hard-of-hearing passengers on board, we put them at ease by providing them with sign language, and when they see our sign language badge, they often greet us with joy, saying, "So you can sign!"

Being able to communicate with customers brings me much closer, and I find it enjoyable to communicate with them.

 

In addition, knowledge of aviation terminology will enable smoother communication with crew members and reduce work time. This will free up time to tackle more tasks and provide more attentive service to customers.

 

Having acquired basic knowledge before joining the company meant that I could use the time to review areas I was weak in after joining the company, and I was able to devote the time to learning more about safety, which was a major benefit.

Hello to everyone looking to work in the airline industry.

 

I feel that being a flight attendant is a truly rewarding job, as it allows me to directly experience the smiles and words of gratitude of our customers. There are many difficult aspects to it, but the joy and excitement I gain outweigh these challenges, making it a wonderful job in which I feel I grow every day.

 

I wholeheartedly support everyone who is working hard towards their dreams.

As cabin attendants, we naturally need to hone our language skills and customer service skills, but it is equally important to have a heart for empathy with our customers and to approach any situation with a smile and a positive attitude.

 

Just like you, I have pursued my dreams and put in a lot of effort, so I can understand how you feel right now as you work hard.

There are many difficult things, and you may wonder if this study is really necessary.

 

However, it will definitely come in handy somewhere, so don't give up and keep trying.

I have also had the experience of failing the selection process many times.

That's why I think I became stronger through that experience.

 

I look forward to the day we can fly together in the sky. I'm rooting for you.

■What are your future dreams?

My dream for the future is to become a senior flight attendant, wear a white jacket, and be in charge of an aircraft.

 

I recently qualified for international business class.

I will continue to work hard to obtain the necessary qualifications one by one so that I can play an active role as a chief cabin attendant.

Airline Department Lecturer/Ground Staff

He joined JAL Sky Osaka Co., Ltd. and worked as a ground staff at Itami Airport, handling VIP reception duties as well as various other duties. He also worked as a counter and gate manager and was involved in training new employees. From 2024, he will be seconded to our school as a ground staff instructor.

The classes I teach include ground staff practice and airlines in general. More than just a teacher, I will serve as a ``senior in the industry'' and convey the real voice that the industry is looking for.
